Lewinson Arts goal is to spread art all over the world, in the facebook page Amigos a los que les gusta Lewinson Art, Artur Kukhta was choosen on August 2024 to be interviewed, for the quality and beauty of his art works, congratulations.
1. Where are you from?
My name is Artur Kukhta. I was born in Donetsk in the east of Ukraine. Now I live in Kyiv.
2. In your artistic life what interesting experiences have you had?
The most interesting moment in my creative life is that I started drawing. I started drawing at the age of 45, when I enrolled the animation courses/ the master of our course was a wonderful person – Elena Borisovna (Patronymic) Kasavina. From that moment, my creative path began.
3. What interests you to express in your art work?
As you already understood, my drawings are aimed towards illustrating children’s books, animation and characters development. Most of my main characters are children. It’s just happened that the last 10-15 years of my life I dedicated to raising my two children (the eldest son – Miron, the youngest daughter – Polina). Undoubtedly, this helped me understand the world of children.
4. Do you have a special style?
I don’t have an academic education in art. I’m constantly learning. I look at the works of different artists, I watch a lot of animation, lot’s of things inspire me. No doubt, this influences my drawing style. To tell the truth, I don’t find “my style” yet, but sometimes people who look at my works talk about “my” style.
5. Have you had an exhibition that you consider the most important or interesting, for some reason?
Speaking about exhibitions, I will say that I participated in only one exhibition dedicated to the activities of our animation school, where I was studying at that time. I also participated in one illustrator competition.
6. What are your favorite artists and why?
This is very difficult question to answer. There are just so many of them. What I see and hear I rate very simple – or I like it, or I don’t like it. But in order to somehow answer your question I will name those artists that pop to my minds first: Van Gogh, Alarico Gattia, Paul Signac, Norman Roquel, Henri Cross, Eisaku Kubonoti, Paul Gauguin, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Klimt, Egon Schiele, Monet, Edward Hopper, Durer, Henri Lautrec, Grand Wood, Jackson Pollock and many others…add to this a huge amount of modern illustrators and animators…I can’t help but mention Hayao Miyazaki. By the way, Japanese culture and art takes up a lot of space in my life and if I continue talking about it, it will take a lot of time.
7. Do you want to transmit some message with your work?
In my drawings I try to avoid the theme of war and violence… I try to draw something funny and amusing, but sometimes I feel sad and my characters are sad too.
8. What does art mean in your life?
The importance of art in my life, it’s a good question. I’d say art important to my happiness, it often happens that my creativity is the little that connects me with the world. After all, I am pleased when my drawings make other people happy.
9. What techniques do you like to work with?
I try different ways of drawing, but now I draw a lot using a simple pencil and paper, A4 format…sometimes digitally.
10. What would you do to bring art closer to people?
I will draw, draw as much as I have the strength and time.
